Nephi’s Predictions in 2 Nephi 25

In our podcast covering 2 Nephi 20-25, I talk about 12 predictions that Nephi makes in 2 Nephi 25. Here is what I have found. I would love your input as to other things that you see! Thanks for listening to the podcast!

  1. Christ’s Coming among the Jews in Jerusalem: Nephi predicts the coming of Jesus Christ, that it will come 600 years from his day, emphasizing that He will be a Messiah to both the Jews and the Gentiles, and that according to the words of the prophets and an angel, “his name shall be Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” (2 Nephi 25.19).
  2. The Crucifixion: Nephi predicts that Jesus Christ will be rejected in the land of Jerusalem, and be crucified. (2 Nephi 25.13).
  3. The Sepulchre: Nephi writes that Jesus will be “laid in a sepulchre for the space of three days” (2 Nephi 25.13).
  4. The Resurrection: He prophesies that Christ will rise from the dead, “with healing in his wings,” and all who believe on him “shall be saved in the kingdom of God.” (2 Nephi 25.13).
  5. Rejection by the Jews and their scattering: Nephi predicts that the Jews will reject Jesus Christ as their Messiah and will be scattered and smitten because of their unbelief (2 Nephi 25.12, 15).
  6. Preservation: Nephi predicts that the Lord will preserve the seed of Joseph (of Egypt), that “they should never perish as long as the earth should stand.” (2 Nephi 25.21).
  7. Gathering of Israel and the Jewish Belief in Jesus: He predicts a future gathering of Israel, where the Jews will come to believe in Christ as their true Messiah (2 Nephi 25.15-17).
  8. Writing for Future Generations: He predicts that his writings and prophecies will be preserved for future generations, to bring them to a knowledge of Christ (2 Nephi 25.21-22).
  9. Role of the Gentiles: Nephi foretells that the Gentiles will play a crucial role in the latter-day gathering of Israel and the spreading of the gospel (2 Nephi 25.22).
  10. Those Judged by the Record: Nephi explains that whoever possesses his words will be “judged of them according to the words which are written.”(2 Nephi 25.22).
  11. Salvation Comes only through Christ: Nephi emphasizes that salvation comes only through Christ, because “there is none other name given” whereby mankind may be saved. He encourages his readers to keep the commandments (2 Nephi 25.20, 23-27).
  12. Law of Moses: Nephi predicts that his people will live under the Law of Moses until it is fulfilled in Christ (2 Nephi 25.24-25, 30). He emphasizes that the law is a preparatory gospel leading to Christ.
