This past conference we heard one of the most beautiful talks I have ever heard by Elder Kearon. It was the first time in my life I felt seen, heard, loved.
This past January, after 17 years of abuse I fled with my two children.
I plead with you, extend caveats for abuse victims when you speak of fidelity to your spouse. I was gaslighted for so many years due to incorrect thinking, teachings that it was me not giving enough of my heart, that I was not cleaving unto him.
When you share these beautiful Scriptures and teachings on marriage, and spouse relations. Please make sure you help abuse victims realize that these commandments only apply when it is a healthy relationship. I know I cannot be the only one who has been misled into believing, if I only lived my covenants perfectly, if I only loved a little more, If only I served him, honored him, I would not be screamed at, bullied, or watch my children fall apart.
A few weeks ago, in episode 142, you addressed abuse. Thank you. It was a much needed lift to my current situation.
Making sure there is a moment to recognize that these scriptures are/can being used by abusers in perverse ways. To manipulate and gaslight victims such as myself.
Moving forward I hope that you will keep this in mind.

Mike and Bryce: love your podcast! This probably belongs earlier in Exodus, but I was asked a question by a Seminary student last week, and though I’d post it here for your thoughts. I’m sure you have both faced this same question, probably many times, given your years of teaching, so I wonder how you explain it and whether you have found any more official pronouncements on the subject. Why does Jehovah in the OT “seem” to be vengeful, and full of wrath? Many times the OT “seems” to affirm the perspective of Jonathan Edwards: “sinners in the hands of an angry God.” Thank you.
